Top 25 Most visited Websites in SA

As a webmaster it really does take my interest to find out which websites are performing well in my country South Africa. I just didn't want to take any person's word for it so I went to Alexa to find out.

1. Google.co.za
As part of Google's mission to make the world's information universally accessible and useful, Google has a localized website in South Africa. It is the king of search everywhere else in the world and its dominance is extended to SA. You can search for text, voice and images on this search engine. It is highly unlikely that you wouldn't be knowing Google as an internet user.

2. Google.com
Enables users to search the world's information, including webpages, images, and videos. Offers... More unique features and search technology. This domain of the search engine giant is normally used for other apps like the Google plus social network. 3. Facebook.com
A social utility that connects people, to keep up with friends, upload photos, share links and videos. It may be third most visited but it is has the highest user engagement with user spending 7 times the time spent on twitter. 4. Youtube.com
YouTube is a way to get your videos to the people who matter to you. Upload, tag and share your videos worldwide! Broadcast yourself is the theme YouTube goes by. It is one of the Google owned websites with all the videos you can imagine.

5. Yahoo.com
A major internet portal and service provider offering search results, customizable content, chatrooms, free e-mail, clubs, and pager.

6. Linkedin.com
A networking tool to find connections to recommended job candidates, industry experts and business partners. Allows registered users to maintain a list of contact details of people they know and trust in business.

7. Gumtree.co.za
Cape Town's online community now, South Africa's largest classifieds websites. Search for jobs, pets, cars you name it. It is part of the Ebay group

8. Wikipedia.org
A free encyclopedia built collaboratively using wiki software. (Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike License). Could be the most popular with university students.

9. News24.com
24 hour online news service. Online arm of the Naspers newspaper group. It is the premier news website for South Africa.

10. Twitter.com
Social networking and microblogging service utilising instant messaging, SMS or a web interface. In South Africa, at the writing of this article, sms service is not yet activated but twitter keeps saying they are working on it. Wonder what "working on it means"

11. Fnb.co.za
FNB provides personal, commercial and corporate banking services to more than 6 million customers across South Africa. It is also the single largest contributor to FirstRand's bottom-line. Read about how we got there

Free blogs managed by the developers of the WordPress software. Includes custom design templates, integrated statistics, automatic spam protection and other features.

One of South Africa's big four banks. Descriptions of accounts, interest rates and services. Internet banking offered.

18. Absa.co.za
Large commercial and private bank offering a full range of services including internet banking

19. Kickass.to
Alexa did not put information on this one and I wouldn't do so myself. It is a torrent sharing website


20. Live.com
Search engine from Microsoft.

21. Ask.com
Offers search for web sites, images, news, blogs, video, maps and directions, local search and shopping.

22. Olx.co.za
OLX is the most popular consumer to consumer (C2C) online marketplace in South Africa, where Individuals Buy, Sell and Rent everything locally in more than 150 cities, through Free Classifieds Advertisements of pre-owned Mobiles, Computers, Electronics, Furniture, Appliances, Cars, Bikes, Properties and Apartments.

23. Iol.co.za
South African, regional and world news, sport, business, motoring, classifieds and RSS feeds from various wires services and Independent group newspapers .

24. Imdb.com
Features plot summaries, reviews, cast lists, and theatre schedules.

25. Tumblr.com
Micro-blogging website with lots of features. It is now owned by Yahoo under the blondie "Marissa Mayer"
